If at first you don’t succeed

November 4, 2010

try, try again!

It’s been over a month since I last posted.  I’ve decided to post as much as I can remember but then to actively use twitter, in case it’s only once/month.

Grad school has been crazy and I feel like homework is the only thing I do anymore…but here’s the problem:

It’s the beginning of November.  My 28th birthday is at the end of the month and the holiday season is rapidly approaching.  I’ve gone through countless new years, making resolutions that I can’t keep.  Obviously, it’s not working.  With that in mind, I’ve stolen the idea of “No Excuses November” from this fantastic blog and am going to work to make some healthy habits before the holidays.

Follow me, especially on twitter, while I work on this.  I’ll be focusing on these for the month of November:

1.  Getting to the gym or working out 4+ times/week.  I pay for a gym membership and I love my gym.  I need to quit wasting money and actually use it!  I’ve gone twice so far this week

2.  Go to the gym 15 times this month.  2 down, 13 to go!

3.  Make healthier food choices. ongoing.

Now it’s your turn:

Do you set goals to stay motivated?  What are you working toward right now?

First Photos

September 27, 2010

I went M.I.A. for a few days, but no worries, I’m back! 🙂  I’m not sure what happened on Thursday and Friday but then I went to my friend’s house for the weekend because her birthday is today.

As I wrote in my last entry, I was supposed to do a 5k yesterday.  It kind of happened.  We went to the Pittsburgh Pirates game and O.A.R. concert on Saturday night and ended up not getting home until 1ish.  I had a great time and it was just what we needed to celebrate her birthday but…there was no way we were going to be able to wake up and function as early as we would have needed.  Instead, we did a 3.25 mile walk when we did wake up Sunday morning.  Even though we didn’t go to the race, it felt great to get out and do a quality walk with a friend!

Food:

This definitely wasn’t a quality food weekend…the highlights were Primanti’s and beer at the baseball game (so good, yet so bad) and an amazing Fig/pear/prosciutto salad yesterday but no pictures.

This morning was pumpkin oats (plain oatmeal with about a 1/4 cup pumpkin pie filling mixed in) and pumpkin spice coffee.

For lunch, I remembered to bring out the camera:

I bought two things I’ve never had before:

I realized as I was browning it that the chicken sausage is a breakfast sausage but it still worked.  The dressing was found during my quest to find a replacement for Trader Joe’s poppy seed dressing that I used up a couple of months ago.

I mixed the sausage and dressing with some spring mix and Feta (love!) cheese.  The combo of maple sausage with the tart dressing was pretty amazing!  I’d definitely recommend it!

On the side I had a small hunk of jalapeno cheddar bread.  I am loving this stuff in a weird way.  Jalapenos are too hot for me to just eat but sometimes I love trying them out, even though it’s almost punishing.  The bread was fantastic, just a bit spicy.

Off to do the homework I avoided this weekend!  Enjoy your Monday!

If you’ve never looked at SkinnyRunner’s blog you need to go now!  She’s hilarious and reading her blog also makes me smile.  She’s also doing a giveaway for a butt-load of Mission Skincare products.  Check it out!

Your Turn:

Do you like going to sporting events?  Which ones and why? I love going to baseball games in the summer, even though our baseball team is pretty awful!  I also love watching Pittsburgh Steelers football games and would love to go to a game one day!

and…

How do I get WordPress to send a tweet when I publish a post? I used to know how but can’t figure it out!

Have a great weekend, see you Monday! 🙂

You’re My Pumpkin Pie!

September 22, 2010

Hey there!  Tomorrow is the first day of fall…I can’t wait!!  I love wearing hoodies/sweaters and jeans and being comfortably cool.  I love, love, LOVE pumpkin!  As a matter of fact, I just got a bunch of pumpkin flavored coffee for my Keurig (which is another one of my favorite things) and just bought canned pumpkin and enjoyed some ridiculously easy pumpkin dip (Recipe below).

Food:

Breakfast – 2 scrambled nest eggs, smear of raspberry jam on top.  Coffee with pumpkin spice creamer

Lunch – leftover buffalo chicken salad

Dinner – PF Chang’s orange chicken (1 serving)

Snacks – Pumpkin Dip/Nilla Wafers, small ice cream sandwich, orange, banana

Recipe:

Super easy pumpkin dip (not sure who told me to do this, but I’m sure I didn’t invent it)

1 tub cool whip (I used Cool Whip Free)

can pumpkin

pumpkin pie spice

Directions:  dump Cool Whip into bowl.  Add pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice to taste.  Enjoy!

I should write a cookbook (I’m obviously very talented).  Anyway…I am going to keep this short and sweet tonight.  I still cannot find my camera and it’s starting to get to me because I’m going away this weekend (and I have a 5K!) and I would really like to have it with me.  Have a beautiful evening!

Your Turn:

What’s your favorite season?  Why?

*Another question, I know you can set your blog up to tweet when you have a new post, but can’t figure it out to save my life!  Help?!*

I am…

September 21, 2010

My name is “B”

There are a lot of different words to define who I am (daughter, sister, aunt, friend, etc).  There is another one that I won’t normally choose but is true…fat.  I’m not someone that feels they need to lose a few pounds, or is even overweight.  I have about 150 pounds to lose.  Yikes!

It would be easy to say that I simply need to lose weight because I’m ridiculously unhealthy but I feel like I need to get to the real reasons…that’s one of the reasons I’ve started this blog.  It’s time to be honest with myself and basically let it all out.  Yes, I want to be healthy, but there are other reasons too.  I want to go to a club and not feel like an ass.  I want to find love, start a family.  I want to be comfortable at amusement parks.  I want to live my life!  There a million reasons and I don’t want to dig into all of them right now.

Because “fat” is not the only way to define me, here’s a little more.  I’m a graduate student, hoping to eventually teach special education (hence the name – which took about 100 tries to find a name I liked and was available)!  I recently started a running program (a lot more walking than running right now) and actually love to work out (then why is she fat?!).  I love to hang out with my friends and family.  More on all of this later.

I hope you join me on this trip.  I can’t promise the most exciting posts and there will mostly likely be some miserable times (if losing weight was easy and fun, don’t you think I would have already done it?) But I will be honest.  I will also start uploading photos as soon as I find my camera (because if I don’t want to look at a text only blog, why would anyone else?)

Until next time…
